What is the importance of the Talent Observatory?

The present-day labour market is in a constant process of change due mainly to the introduction of new and emerging technologies. The awareness and understanding of these changes is crucial for efforts to better match the characteristics of the stakeholder population with the needs and requirements of the labour market.

The aim of the website is to provide, in a summarised and readily understandable way, the main characteristics of job offers in Catalonia including, for example, the occupations in most demand, the skills and abilities required, together with other characteristics such as the type of contract and salaries that are offered.

This information is useful for a wide variety of actors:

  • People who are planning labour market-related strategies and policies will be able to study and better understand the changing needs and requirements of the labour market.
  • Those responsible for provision will be able to adapt curricula and programmes of study to the demands of the labour market.
  • Enterprises and organisations will be able to identify and be aware of trends and developments taking place in training in their sector and design more appropriate staff training programmes.
  • Career and employment guidance services will provide up-to-date information on the skills required in industry and enterprise.
  • The population in general will have better career and employment guidance, particularly in relation to life-long learning.

AQU Catalunya

The mission of the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (Agència per a la Qualitat del SistemaUniversitari de Catalunya/AQU Catalunya) is to safeguard the standards and improve the quality of higher education in Catalonia. For this purpose it engages in different activities, including carrying out survey studies on recent graduates and the organisations that recruit them. This enables the external viewpoint of quality to be incorporated into decision-making in institutions across the higher education system in Catalonia. Through collaboration with the Fundació “la Caixa”, AQU Catalunya makes objective information available to the university community (and other actors) on the skills needed in the labour market, thereby enabling better educational and training provision.
